There are Seven Days in a Week

That is what ZX is learning now in his nursery class.  Monday, Tuesday….. Sunday.  Well, I cannot remember exactly what I was ‘doing’ (Note: not learning) at the similar age while I was young.  I was in kindergarten only at the age of 5, or perhaps 6.

Under the current education system in Singapore, you will likely be asked to solve the math question such as 1 + 2 + …. 100 or 4 + 7 + 10 + ________ + 31 + 34 + 37 by the time of primary 5.

By primary 1, you will be expected to know “Five is one less than Six”.  Isn’t this about English? I am expecting some real numbers on Mathematics.  However, this was what I learnt from my friend whose kid is attending primary 1 now since January.

Thus, by now, I feel that I should send ZX to an English language enrichment class in order for him to excel in his English as well as Mathematics in a few years time.

I once thought that having him to count from 1 to 100 was very great at his age now with also praise from his principal.  It seems that I am wrong.  I guess I have to make him to learn one word from the dictionary per day such that at the end of this year, he should be able to recite the word from page 1 to page 100 instead.
